I thought I'd share some of my most recent musings from my time with the Lord this week. Paul writes, "For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God has prepared beforehand for us to do" (NIV, Ephesians 2:10).
We are His workmanship. His design. His creation. He has shaped us for good works and for a purpose. This got me thinking...What are the good works He wants us to do?
There is a laundry list of good works so I won't list them all. (I don't think I even know, or understand, all He desires of us.)
1. I do know that He wants us to believe Him (John 6:28-29).
2. He wants us to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with Him (Micah 6:8).
3. I believe He wants us to do acts of mercy (Matthew 25) and look after widows, orphans, and keep ourselves from being polluted by the world (James 1:27).
4. Jesus wants us to love Him and love our neighbor (Mark 12:30-31).
5. I believe the Lord wants us to offer our bodies as living sacrifices (Romans 12:1). While I was huffing and puffing my way around the rec center track yesterday, this last one got me thinking...What would be the opposite of a living sacrifice?
It occurred to me that the opposite of offering our bodies as living sacrifices would be to offer our bodies as living consumers. We are not only guilty of offering our bodies as living consumers in our professional and personal lives. But we're guilty of offering our bodies as living consumers within the Church.
God have mercy.
